All individuals assisted by ECAC reside in the Uptown/Edgewater neighborhood. Prior to their arrival, apartments are arranged with basic necessities including beds and bedding, kitchen utensils and bathroom supplies. Volunteers are needed to help prepare the homes; please note that oftentimes, this includes shopping for the various articles beforehand, and access to a car is therefore preferable.
Volunteers will work with ECAC staff to educate immigrants and refugees on issues that concern the populations at hand. These include matters of health and wellness, culture preservation and child protection and maintenance.
The After-School Program runs Monday through Thursday from 2:30pm – 5:00pm. Activities include homework help/tutoring, reading, sports, games and arts and crafts. Periodically, guest speakers are invited to educate and run programs for the children. Help is always welcome, as are new ideas and initiatives.
The Ethiopian Community Association often holds cultural events for community members and friends. Oftentimes, volunteers are needed to assist with coordination, information distribution and supervision.
